Australian Made vs Australian Owned: What the Labels Really Mean

Australian product claims can mean different things. Australian Home Collective uses clear status labels to help shoppers understand what each product or brand claim means before visiting the brand or retailer.

What does Australian Made mean?

Australian Made means the product is described as made in Australia. This does not always mean the product is officially certified.

What does Australian Made Certified mean?

Australian Made Certified means the product is listed or verified as certified under the official Australian Made program. We only use this label when certification has been confirmed.

What does Australian Owned mean?

Australian Owned means the business or brand is owned in Australia. The product may still use imported materials or offshore manufacturing.

What does Australian Designed mean?

Australian Designed means the product is designed in Australia, but may be manufactured elsewhere.

What does Ships from Australia mean?

Ships from Australia means the product is dispatched from Australia. This can be useful for delivery expectations, but it is not the same as Australian Made.

What does Useful Alternative mean?

Useful Alternative means the product is not Australian-made or Australian-owned, but may be included as a useful comparison or practical alternative.

Do we use the official Australian Made logo?

No. Australian Home Collective does not use the official Australian Made logo unless authorised to do so.

Why do these labels matter?

These labels help separate where a product is made, who owns the brand, where it is designed and where it ships from. This gives shoppers clearer context before they click through to a brand or retailer.

Label guide

Labels explained

Australian wording can look similar at a glance, but product origin, brand ownership and shipping location are different claims. Use these labels as a starting point, then check the current product page, packaging or manufacturer information before relying on a claim.

Label What it usually means What to check
Made in Australia Used where a product is represented as being made in Australia. This generally means the product's last substantial transformation occurred in Australia. It does not mean official Australian Made Campaign certification unless the official licensed logo is shown.
Australian-Owned Brand Used where the brand or business is Australian-owned. This refers to ownership of the brand, not necessarily where the product was manufactured. The ACCC distinguishes Australian owned claims from product-origin claims.
Ships from Australia The product is dispatched from Australia. This refers to shipping location only and does not mean the product was made in Australia or Australian-owned.
Important note

Product origin, ownership and shipping labels are based on brand, retailer or supplier information available at the time of listing. Australian Home Collective does not independently certify these claims and is not affiliated with Australian Made Campaign Ltd unless expressly stated.
